Design stripped to what really matters.
Khushboo Kakkar founded BASICS Studio in 2018 with a conviction that has not changed: that good design begins with honesty: of material, of process, and of place. Over nine years of independent practice, the studio has completed more than fifty projects across residential architecture, hospitality, and government infrastructure in India. The work is defined by a commitment to sustainable and vernacular construction, treated not as aesthetic gestures but as structural and environmental decisions. What a building is made of is as important as what it looks like. Certified in rammed earth technique and arched roof construction through the Government of Chhattisgarh, and in bamboo building by the Auroville Bamboo Centre, Khushboo brings hands-on technical knowledge to every project from first sketch through site supervision.
The practice has been published in Architectural Digest India, Elle Decor, Yinji Space, Manera Spain, Living Etc., and Good Homes, and recognised with awards from the IIID, Tejomaya Women in Design, and i-Gen Top 50 Under 40 Designers.
